gold-trophyWest Seattle 832 Toastmasters enjoyed another wonderful meeting. Brig Henry was the Toastmaster of the Day and ran the meeting efficiently and enthusiastically as usual. New member, Kenlyn K. Terai gave her icebreaker speech, “Remembering Home”, which was very well executed with a lot of humor and warmth. Franni Turean gave a special speech in honor of Laura Grove, the winner of the President of the Year award called, “Pinnacle” the Presenting an Award, Special Occasion Speech. Franni explained how the President’s award is voted on and what areas comprise District 2. As always, Franni’s speech was heartfelt sharing that Laura’s professionalism and support of our club has been highly appreciated! Laura Grove, our most esteemed winner of this year’s President of the Year award for District 2 gave her speech titled, “How Did That Happen?” from the Special Occasions Manual, Accepting an Award. Laura eloquently shared her journey with Toastmasters. She began at Harborview Toastmasters and then joined West Seattle 832 five years later. Laura has a wonderful way of sharing her stories one of which includes the two and a half years it took her to give her icebreaker speech. She shared that she’s truly grateful for the award and for everyone’s role in the success of Toastmasters West Seattle 832 Club.

It was an excellent competition at the Division D Humorous Speech and Table Topics contest!  The challenge level was high, with several solid competitors vying for a chance to advance to the District 2 contest.

And one of our club and area champions is advancing to compete at the district level!!  Franni Turean has polished her already awesome “Good Thing You’re Cute!” speech, and delivered it impeccably to take first place at the division contest.  Congratulations, Franni!
IMG_20151015_205225485Christine Klimkowski also delivered a solid Table Topic speech, responding to the question, “If you were add one face to Mount Rushmore, whose face would it be?”  While Christine isn’t advancing this go-round, I know we’ll be seeing her advancing through the ranks again in future competitions!

As well, several members showed up to support our champions, and our vigorous cheering ensured that all the attendees knew that Club 832 was in the house!  Our cheering section included Sherry Tuckett, Laura Grove, Karen Lezon, Joel Cohn, and John LeCompte.

Plan on attending the District 2 contest on 11/7, at the Fall Contest in Redmond. Here’s a URL for the information (copy and paste into your browser):

The theme for tonight’s Toastmaster meeting was ‘Impromptu’ with lots of impromptu speaking especially when answering the Table Topic question, ‘tell us a time when you were impromptu’. Members shared stories of life and death situations and challenging themselves to try something new. The joke master told a 17 second joke about why spaghetti O’s is better than alphabet soup. A wonderful speech was given by Grant who shared ideas for “how to not be a beet”. Great meeting!!

Next Thursday is the District Speech Contest, which will be held at the Kent Senior Center (600 E Smith St, Kent, WA 98030) from 5:30 to 9pm. The event is rich with opportunities to learn different speech styles and techniques. Join us as we cheer for our members, Franni Turean (Humorous Speech contest winner) and Christine Klimkowski (Table Topic winner).

Thank you to everyone who stepped-up and filled a role at the last meeting; your support is vital to the success to the meetings!
